Dumpster Rental in Mebane, NC

Mebane is roughly 25 miles from our yard, about 35 to 40 minutes. It is also the most administratively awkward town we serve, and not for any reason that's obvious from the map.

Mebane straddles the Alamance and Orange county line. Which side of that line your job sits on determines where the debris is legally allowed to go — and on one side, the convenient answer is not available at all.

The county line problem

The Alamance County Landfill — officially Austin Quarter, on Austin Quarter Road in Graham — takes both household waste and construction debris, with scales open Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings. Municipal solid waste tips at $44 per ton, yard waste at $32.

But its governing rule is narrow: the landfill, convenience center, and recycling centers of Alamance County may be used only for the disposal of solid waste generated in Alamance County.

That matters because a meaningful part of Mebane — including the Buckhorn Economic Development District at Exit 157, where much of the new industrial construction is happening — sits in Orange County. Debris generated on that side of town cannot go to the Alamance landfill.

And Orange County has no commercial option to fall back on. Its Waste and Recycling Center on Bradshaw Quarry Road is in Mebane, but it takes residential waste only, excludes hired contractors, and does not accept construction and demolition debris at all.

So on the Orange County side of Mebane, a contractor has no nearby municipal option and has to use a private facility. Working out where your debris is legally allowed to go is part of what you're hiring us for.

Permits and placement

We are going to be straight with you here rather than invent a rule. Mebane does not publish a standalone dumpster or encroachment permit. We looked through the city's Public Works pages, the planning permit list, and the permit portal, and there isn't one posted.

That does not mean anything goes. For a container on a city street, call Mebane Public Works at 919-563-3401 before the drop and ask — they are at 636 Corregidor Street, open weekdays 8 to 5.

If your street is state-maintained rather than city-maintained, it is an NCDOT matter instead, and NCDOT requires an encroachment agreement for work within its right-of-way. Several Mebane corridors are state roads. Their encroachments office is at 919-707-7189.

On your own driveway or lot, neither applies.

What we haul here

Mebane is the growth story of our service area — the population went from about 11,400 in 2010 to nearly 17,800 in 2020, and the building has not slowed since. The mix is close to the opposite of Durham's: new construction and site work rather than renovation and demolition.

The Exit 157 corridor is the engine. Creekside Logistics I and II broke ground in January 2025, more than 196,000 square feet across roughly 26 acres in the Buckhorn district. Buc-ee's broke ground in June 2026 on its first North Carolina location — 74,000 square feet, 120 fueling positions, with construction expected to run into late 2027. Cone Health's Mebane Hospital, a $250 million project at around 161,000 square feet, is due to open in 2029.

That is a multi-year runway of commercial and industrial buildout, alongside steady residential subdivision work.

What that means for sizing

New construction debris is the mirror image of demolition debris. Framing scrap, cardboard, packaging, siding and drywall offcuts are bulky and light — you will fill the box long before you approach a weight limit. That usually argues for the largest container that fits the site, and for planning swap-outs rather than sizing down.
